The deepsky newsletter
Our AI in Aviation journey started 5 years ago. Yours starts today
Who we are
Well its just me right now. I am Samuel Chandra, an A320 Captain who published a podcast on the intersection of AI and Aviation back in 2020/21. Since then, the world has changed a lot. Except aviation which hasn’t really changed. The commercial airline sector is technologically identical to how it was 5 years ago.
AI collides with Aviation
Since 2020, one thing happened - ChatGPT. Which has pretty much single handedly evangelised what AI can do to the world. Very few people still understand what it actually IS, but for most, this is irrelevant. For those in the aviation industry, (I’m talking about the operational side of it) it is highly relevant.
We are generally knowledgable, [necessarily] risk adverse professionals that are expected to operate to a long list of standards. And this requires careful judgement in the technologies we employ to fling hundreds of people at a time around the world at 1000km/h.
Follow this newsletter
You should subscribe to this newsletter. Why? Because I read 3 newsletters a day that summarise all of the developments in technology and AI. I am a software developer, a pilot and used to be a manager in the flight operations department of an airline (so I get implementation and corporate things), and so have an inkling as to what’s important, whats interesting and whats just hype.
So in summary. I will save you time, make you sound like a genius and help you do more in your job, so you can help others in your world/company/crew/ops team do more.
